At our Waterside Cancer Support Centre we provide a non-clinical support centre for those living in or around Hythe. This service is for the benefit of both cancer patients and their families. The Centre is modelled on the Wessex Cancer Trust’s facility at Jane Scarth House in Romsey and has a range of services available.
The Waterside Cancer Support Centre is the only organisation in the Waterside and New Forest area able to provide free support and counselling for people affected by cancer.
Local availability means that people affected by cancer have no need to travel outside the area to obtain the support they need.
Oakhaven Hospice and the area’s GPs acknowledge the need and have expressed their support for the facilities on offer.
Our services include:
- A free drop-in centre in a warm, welcoming and non-clinical environment;
- Trained and trusted volunteers who welcome clients and offer a hot drink while they help to find information or offer a friendly, listening ear;
- Free one-to-one professional counselling and support;
- Free, relaxing complementary therapies;
- Information, from a variety of trusted sources, about cancer and cancer treatments.
Our Counsellor is available, by appointment, on Mondays and Tuesdays.
Our Therapist is available, by appointment, on Wednesdays and Fridays.
To obtain an appointment please visit the Centre and speak to one of our volunteers.
The Centre opened on 1st November 2010 and has received remarkable support from the entire Waterside community. In the first year of operation more than 1000 visitors to the Centre have benefited from the support, services and information we offer.
- Monday – Friday : 10.00 am – 4.00 pm daily
How to Find Us
The Centre is located in a self-contained suite at The Grove, St John’s Street, Hythe.
Hythe was selected for its central position and transport options as well as availability of suitable and affordable premises. Although our premises are small, our hearts and welcome are big and we look forward to offering support to anyone whose life has been affected by cancer.
From the A326 follow signs to Hythe Town Centre.
Public (paid) car parking is available immediately opposite The Grove. Please note that on Tuesdays parking in this car park is limited due to the market activities but two other car parks are only a few minutes walk away.
